Pregnant women should be able to work for as long as they can and want to. Employers are prohibited from discriminating against women based on pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions. They must be treated the same as other employees. For example, an employer cannot refuse to hire a woman simply because she is pregnant so long as she can perform the functions of her job. Employers must hold a job open for a woman who is on maternity leave just as they would an employee on sick or disability leave.
